Marine Biology Internship, Maldives (closed)

We are seeking a creative, motivated intern (unpaid) to join our Reefscapers team, based at a 5-star island resort. This is an exciting opportunity for a marine biology graduate with a love for corals, looking to gain tropical experience both above and below the waves.

● There is no charge to join, but this is an unpaid position. Food and accommodation are provided, and there is a 1-minute daily commute.
● Approximately 50% of our interns are later hired in full-time Reefscapers roles, or find work elsewhere in the Maldives.

Intern Role

🪸 Assist with all aspects of our coral propagation programme.
🪸 Collect coral fragments to create new frames; maintain and monitor/photograph existing frames.
🪸 Conduct marine life briefings and collect data on guided guest snorkel trips and dolphin cruises.
🪸 Collect data on coral spawning by night-snorkelling/diving alongside colleagues.
🪸 Give marine presentations, help with kids’ club educational activities and guest awareness initiatives.
🪸 Produce social media content, work on a dedicated project, assist in report-writing.

Candidate Specification

✅ BSc Marine Biology (or related), preferably with knowledge of Acropora coral ID.
✅ Confident swimmer/freediver (10m) and night-diver; PADI Open Water (minimum) to Rescue Diver (preferred).
✅ Physically fit non-smoker/vaper, able to carry 20kg weight, and work long hours daily in the ocean in all weathers.
✅ Good standard of written/spoken English; additional languages useful.
✅ Experience shooting underwater photos/video and creating social media content.
✅ Positive, professional attitude; self-disciplined, with good time management.
✅ Passionate about marine conservation and comfortable living on an isolated tropical island.
✅ Respectful of the high standards of an international 5-star resort, and confident in guest-facing roles.
