Reefscapers – Reef Regeneration Experts

In October 2024, Delta Electronics EMEA partnered with Reefscapers to support coral propagation and reef restoration as part of its regional CSR initiative.

Reefscapers, an international team of marine biologists, has been at the forefront of marine environmental projects for over 20 years. Founded in 2001 by husband-and-wife team Thomas and Marie, the organization has grown from its modest beginnings to lead projects throughout the Maldives and internationally. Over the years, Reefscapers have expanded its expertise, bringing together specialists in engineering, data science, aquaculture, and animal husbandry. The organization now delivers tailored solutions in areas such as reef restoration, coastal erosion management, and the development and operation of marine education centers, including the well-known Marine Savers initiative.

Restoring Coral Reefs together with Delta Electronics EMEA Delta Electronics EMEA annually organizes the regional CSR initiative, “Charity Fitness Challenges,” where employees from various countries come together to exercise for a shared cause. This year, the EMEA region focused its efforts on supporting Coral Reef Restoration.

“We recognize the critical role that healthy marine ecosystems play in maintaiing the balance of our planet’s biodiversity. Supporitng Coral reef restoration is not only a direct contribution to environmental sustainability, but also an investment in the future of our oceans.”

Dalip Sharma

President and General Manager, Delta Electronics EMEA Region

For this initiative, for every 10 km Delta EMEA Employees covered through walking, biking, or running—or for each hour of exercise, Delta EMEA pledged to transplant one coral fragment for Reefscapers Coral Frame. Over the course of three weeks of the initiative, 280 colleagues participated, collectively covering 12,859 kilometers and contributing an additional 157 hours of exercise. This impressive achievement resulted in the transplantation of 1,442 coral fragments to aid in the regeneration of coral reefs. Inspired by the exceptional commitment of the employees, Delta EMEA decided to round up this total to 1,600 fragments, which will support the creation of two large coral pyramid structures in Furanafushi.

"We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and dedication shown by our colleagues across the EMEA region. Their collective efforts have made a meaningful impact, and we are thrilled to see how their commitment will help support the regeneration of coral reefs. We look forward to witnessing the positive impact of these efforts for years to come!"

Delta Electronics’ Global Efforts in Marine Conservation & Coral Restoration

Delta Electronics, through the Delta Electronics Foundation, is committed to supporting marine conservation projects worldwide, with a particular focus on coral restoration. Headquartered in Taiwan, where Delta Electronics global operations are based, the Foundation collaborates with leading organizations and researchers to address critical marine environmental challenges.

One of the Foundation’s key partnerships is with the National Museum of Marine Biology (Taiwan), where they are conducting research on marine heatwaves and coral bleaching. Their work includes breeding heat-tolerant coral species and studying coral symbiosis to enhance resilience to rising sea temperatures. To further accelerate coral growth, Delta has developed a custom-designed LED coral incubator, equipped with programmable controllers for feeding, water changes, and environmental monitoring.

In addition to its work in Taiwan, Delta Americas have partnered with the Mote Marine Laboratory (Florida, USA) to share knowledge and best practices for coral restoration, particularly in response to coral bleaching events. Delta’s coral initiatives also extend to media outreach, including a documentary project in collaboration with researchers at Great Barrier Reef (Australia) to document coral bleaching and mortality.

The Reefscapers projects align seamlessly with Delta’s global commitments to combating climate change and protecting biodiversity. Through the collaboration with Reefscapers, Delta’s EMEA region is actively involved in expanding artificial reefs at Furanafushi and developing innovative experiments to optimize coral growth rates and enhance resilience to elevated ocean temperatures. These efforts are part of Delta’s broader commitment to supporting marine conservation and sustainability across all regions, with the goal of making a meaningful impact on coral restoration worldwide.

How to Get Involved

You can sponsor a frame, and we will transplant it with healthy coral fragments on your behalf. You will receive a unique reference number, and photos will be uploaded every 6 months to this web page, allowing you to monitor the growth of your corals as they mature and flourish.
